Give back to your community

Updated: Nov 1, 2023

You may not realize daily how blessed you are in life, but if you have a roof over your head and a fridge with food then you are already richer than some. Be the light in someone's darkness and bestow blessings upon them through these 4 ways:

  1. Volunteer work - This is a typical way people like to give back. Shelters are always in need of volunteers to help serve food, keep the food pantry organized, and much more.

  2. Drives - Hold clothing and/or food drives at your school or place of work. Ask your colleges/peers to donate any gently used clothes, canned goods, and hygiene products that you can donate to your local shelter.

  3. Donations- You don't need to hold a drive to donate to your local shelter. It may seem like an easier option to just throw your old clothes away, (if they are old, and run down please do) but do different this year and donate all of your gently used items to shelters. Just check the website of different shelters to see what items they are in need of.

  4. Pass out items- Another way of giving back is to go out and pass out items to homeless people yourself. Every winter I like to put together care packages and go about town passing them out. These packages include hats, gloves, scarves, socks, earmuffs, hand warmers, tissues, toothbrushes, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, water, granola bars, and fruit. You can grab a lot of these items at your local dollar store. Typically I buy enough stuff for 25 bags, but even if you are only able to make 5 bags that still will help 5 people that really need it. You can even ask for help from friends and family to chip in.

These are only a few ways to get involved. Just try to make the world a kinder place one step at a time. I do these blogs to remind people that

we are all just that ... people, who are living our lives day to day trying to survive. We all go through trials & tribulations and should not tear each other down, but instead try to enlighten and uplift each other. Peace, love, and blessings to all.
