Suicide Prevention Month
September is Suicide Prevention Month.

Mental health is so much more than the stigmas you see on social media. It’s the endless days spent wondering if you’re good enough. It’s not getting out of bed, not taking care of yourself, the self-hate, the negative thoughts. It’s staying up all night and sleeping all day. Some days are better than others, and depression can take many different forms.
It could be functional depression — where you’re able to go about your everyday life and seem fine on the outside, but you’re screaming for help on the inside.
No matter what mental health disorder you may be struggling with — whether that’s depression, bipolar disorder, or something else — know that you are not alone. So many others in the world are fighting the same battle. Do not be afraid or ashamed to ask for help.
If you are in the U.S., there are free and confidential hotlines you can reach out to. You can call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, where you’ll receive urgent emotional support. You can also text HOME to 741741 to connect with the Crisis Text Line. For international options, check out Befrienders Worldwide, a global directory of crisis centers that you can search by country.
Healing is not a straight path — it isn’t linear. We can only take life one day at a time. Your story is still being written, and the world is a better place with you in it. Start small, healthy habits for yourself such as seeing a therapist, practicing journaling or mindfulness, limiting isolation, and taking digital pauses from social media. Remember: no battle is fought alone, even if it may feel that way. Keep reaching. Keep fighting. And always remember there are resources out there for you.
Awareness is important, but action is life-saving. Check in with your loved ones, let them know that you care and are there for them unconditionally. Share resources with others. Spread kindness even on the days you feel like you can’t — because your love and presence could be the light someone desperately needs. Together, our small actions can advocate for the voices that cannot advocate for themselves. Together, we can create a space where no one feels alone in their mental health struggle.
You matter
